LISTEN TO WOLF HOWL AND THE SOUNDS OF THE END OF THE WORLD

There is a smell of Time in the air.  What does Time smell like? Like dust and despair and ruin.
What does Time dying sound like?
Like water running along the wall of a dark cave and frightened voices weeping and dirt dropping down upon hollow box lids. Maybe if you listen closely to this audio book, you will even see Time.
Time like snow drifting silently across a bleak landscape or like a silent film in a theater of the dead ... Time as 100 billion faces falling like those New Year balloons, down, down, down into nothing.

Ten dollars will buy you a listening experience that will stay with you long after the last echoes of Wolf Howl's voice fade into the night.

THE LOVELY ELISE FALLSON

The lovely Elise Fallson wrote an equally lovely review for RETURN OF THE LAST SHAMAN

Don't see it on its Amazon Page?

That is because Elise lives in France.  You have to go to Amazon's French Site:

http://www.amazon.fr/RETURN-LAST-SHAMAN-AMERICAN-English-ebook/dp/B00S7HOCVG/

Wondering what she said?  Here it is:

"I really enjoyed this read, it has the perfect blend of science fiction and Native American culture which is refreshing and perfectly executed.

The story revolves around an unlikely band of characters who are set on a mission to save the world and they’ve got twenty minutes to do just that.

Wolf Howl, Shadow, Abby, Nicola Tessla, and Mossad Agents must learn to work together, trust each other, and ultimately sacrifice everything in order to accomplish the mission.

True to his writing style, Roland Yeoman crafts his story with his vivid imagination, poetic imagery, believable characters, sharp dialogue, and thought-provoking passages, all punctuated by bits of sarcasm, humor, and love."

Today is the launch day for Alex Cavanaugh's DRAGON OF THE STARS.  Pick up a copy today!

ANOTHER 5 STAR REVIEW!

ANN BEST
has written a beautiful review of RETURN OF THE LAST SHAMAN

FIVE STARS: AMAZING

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing February 22, 2015

One reviewer says there's a lot of philosophical thought in this haunting novella that some readers might not like.

I'm one reader who loves it.

I kept underlining all the wonderful wisdom passages, such as,

"And why are they dying? For one thing noise.

Modern Man lived in a maelstrom of noise...Civilized man has forgotten what silence is."

"Most people are unsettled by utter silence for it reminds them of darkness and death."

Throughout this tightly written, poetical novella, death does indeed hover.

The underlying theme is that the white man's world is over.

But does modern man (and woman) know this?

Not according to Wolf Howl, aka Mr. Drew, his voice the main voice, in a cast of colorful characters, who comments philosophically about the nature of man and the world.

"To be human is to be a tense death-foreseeing, conflicted animal....

Even if we did the impossible and saved Man, He would only end up destroying himself later," he says.

There's gloom and potential doom here.

But humor is also a thread throughout the story, especially through the voice of Abby, my favorite female character.

The shift to her viewpoint in one of the chapters is brilliantly executed; her voice, delightful.

From Abby:
"Mr. Drew just didn't know I had no intention of killing those back-shouting Egyptians. I just wanted to scare the piss out of them....

I was getting bored seeing Shadow and Mr. Drew look all moon-eyed at each other.

We had a world to save, and I figured we had twenty minutes left to do it."

How does Drew/Wolf Howl save it, he who said that "the purpose of life is to be defeated by greater and greater things, and yet still rise"?

The climax gave me chills, and still does as I think about it.

No spoilers, because I don't have the words to do it justice--

the lively dialogue, literary and mythological allusions, and pun on words to name a few of the elements in this amazing novella that has to be read, or heard, to appreciate the author's achievement.

Over three years ago I read The Bear with Two Shadows.

Add to this The Return of the Last Shaman, and I am again "blown away" by the beauty of the author's prose and the complexity of his characters.

I who have never read much fantasy or science fiction--haven't much liked it in the past--am now "hooked" on these genres, thanks to Roland Yeomans who deserves a wide audience for his stories that I can easily see translated to film.

I am now about to ride with an earlier Wolf Howl and Sam McCord in END OF DAYS....

THANK YOU, ANN!

ASHES OF WEDNESDAY

Ash Wednesday ...

the 40 days of fasting that last 46 days.  What?

The six Sundays in the period after Mardi Gras and before Easter are not counted since they are not fast days.

You learn something new every day, right?

The period of fasting is to parallel the 40 days of fasting Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by Satan.

But what about those ashes?

{Ash Wednesday by Carl Spitweg
in Public Domain}

Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of blessing ashes made from Palm branches from the previous year's Palm Sunday.

Many adopt the practice of abstaining from something important to the individual during Lent.

I would nominate the ceaseless looking at the screen of your cell phone ... to only use your phone to make essential calls.

People might actually start seeing the world around them again and, you know, communicate to the person not six inches from them.

.

REALITY IS AWKWARD.

SCREENS ARE A WALL BETWEEN YOU
AND THAT AWKWARD REALITY.

But the authentic life is composed of off-screen moments.

When most people spend more time looking at tiny screens than at the people and their surroundings, they have become blind to the world.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

MYTH IS THE TRUTH IN THE LIE

And that is with just THREE COPIES SOLD!

Imagine how high in the listings RETURN could go if you bought a copy?

Just saying is all.

Mythology is not a lie.

Mythology is poetry reaching out with words and images

to search out with our innermost being,

seeking to touch the face of the Great Mystery, who is beyond words, beyond images.

whose Song breathed us into being.

The Truth of what Lies Beyond lies in a realm murky and timeless.

Mythology pitches our minds past those boundaries of clumsy words and images

to sense what cannot be conveyed with mere tongue or pen.

We need myths that will link the individual, not with his tribe, but with the whole planet ...

for Man is the sick animal who does not know what to do with himself.

Follow the path of myth and doors will open that you had not noticed were even there.

I AM WOLF HOWL

I am Wolf Howl.

Myth.  When you are living it, you do not realize it.

Looking back, I realize I was living a fairy tale of how I felt life to be.

Those memories, for what they are worth, for what they may recapture,

are glimpses of attitudes and times that are gone forever from this world.

For so long the White Man has suckled on fear and fear alone.

Yet nothing good is produced from fear.  Its children are Cruelty, Deceit, and Suspicion ...

germinating in the darkness of souls grown numb.

And just as surely as the White Man is poisoning the air with his factories and machines,

tainting the oceans with his radioactive wastes ...

So is he poisoning his soul with his fears, his greed, and his denial of all but his ambitions.

Come with me now to a Time that Once Was, a Time you no longer remember ...

the Time of ...

TODAY IS THE DAY!

Sometimes we can peek into the realm that hides in plain sight ...

We look upon the surface and think that is all there is.

The Cosmos is not so simple.

Life bristles with life.  All seems the same, yet everything real is concealed.

Shoreless seas, beauty that is an enchantment yet an ever-present peril,

and questions that will shut the gate behind you,

forever making you separate and apart.

The greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely of places ... under your very nose.

“Every living being is an engine geared to the wheelwork of the universe.

Though seemingly affected only by its immediate surrounding,

the sphere of external influence extends to infinite distance.”
- Nikola Tesla

Why do I quote Nikola Tesla?

He is one of the major players in RETURN OF THE LAST SHAMAN

available for purchase today.

Dare to enter the gateless Gate and adventure with Nikola and his friend, Wolf Howl, the last Lakota shaman.

rather it offers a full-on confrontation with it,

one in which a man can easily lose himself forever.”

DOOMSDAY CLOCK SET TO 3 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT

All 16 U.S. Intelligence agencies have begun to prepare for WWIII.

The mysterious Project Prophecy has indicated the fall of the U.S. Dollar as the Global Reserve Currency,

equivalent to the end of the British Empire post WWII.

The endgame could be a nightmare worldwide economic breakdown and collapse.

Absurd?  Watch these scary and strange CIA programs:

THE SUN'S KISS ... OF DEATH

The sun throws temper tantrums and the White Man has become too civilized to withstand them:

 The White Governments could prepare
BUT
You know how their greed makes them short-sighted.

We have been lucky so far.
A foolish man is one who depends upon luck.

Yet, when the sun flings judgement upon civilization,
it will be Man who will carry it out.

REALITY HAS TEETH

BLAST RADIUS

Scientists have discovered that the supervolcano beneath Yellowstone is 2.5 times larger than thought

AND

that it does not need any external trigger like an earthquake to erupt.

Bison have been seen moving away from the park ...

In your mind I know you see them plodding along.

Oh, no, my friends, they are more like hauling their shaggy rumps as fast as they can from it!

What would happen if the Super-Volcano erupted?

In a single day, the bread-basket of America would be destroyed, temperatures would drop from the volcanic winter by 20 degrees for six to ten years:

Wolf Howl asks you if you truly think the white government would panic its people by telling them the truth?

Is a judgement coming upon the white government that broke treaties,

wiped out the buffalo (the food supply of the Plains Indians),

and committed genocide to clear land for its citizens?

MURMURS FROM THE SHADOWS

There are mysteries that murmur from the shadows ...

Did aliens visit Earth long ago?  Will they return?  Are some still here?

For the first time in 11, 000 years Comet Lovejoy is streaking across the inner solar system.  What does it portend?

Mayan carvings show starcraft landing from the stars with Mars in its midst.

In the depths of a buried pyramid. an ancient model of an airplane was found with the symbol for Mars etched upon its side.

The strange case of Vampire Countess Erzsebet Bathory

In the mid-1590's, she bathed in the blood of 650 servant girls that she raped, tortured, drank the blood of, and finally murdered.

In 1610, the King intervened.  His servants invaded the castle, finding horrors beyond description.

She was walled up, never to be released until death.

The countess "died" in 1614 and buried.

But when her grave was dug up in 1617 after countless young girls went missing -- the body of the Countess was gone!  Young girls continued to disappear until this very day!

The Lakota, Sugmanitou Hota, named Drew August

by the orphanage that raised him --

is currently being sought by the world's intelligence agencies.

Thought to be a clever charlatan and escape artist, Sugmanitou Hota (Wolf Howl in English)

has left a trail of slain operatives from a score of international intelligence agencies.

If you should see this man, please report the sighting to the nearest branch of the F.B.I.

DO NOT -- DO NOT -- APPROACH THIS MAN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

THE FIRST LINE

My first line for THE LAST SHAMAN:

"When she was thunder in the distance, I awoke."

My first line for RETURN OF THE LAST SHAMAN:

"The night had strung death like beads along the thread of its hours."

STEPHEN KING
says the best writers hook their readers with voice, not just action.

Stephen King:

"There are all sorts of theories and ideas about what constitutes a good opening line.

It's a tricky thing, and tough to talk about because I don't think conceptually while I work on a first draft --

I just write.

To get scientific about it is a little like trying to catch moonbeams in a jar.

But there's one thing I'm sure about. An opening line should invite the reader to begin the story. It should say: 'Listen. Come in here. You want to know about this.'

The opening line of It is

'The terror that would not end for another 28 years, if it ever did, began so far as I can know or tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain.'

When I'm starting a book, I compose in bed before I go to sleep.

I will lie there in the dark and think. I'll try to write a paragraph. An opening paragraph.

And over a period of weeks and months and even years,

I'll word and reword it until I'm happy with what I've got. If I can get that first paragraph right, I'll know I can do the book"

What do I think about first lines?

A good first line should be as good as your favorite film quote.

Something that even when taken out of context has power – the power to make someone laugh or think or gasp or grimace.

The best opening lines, when read in the bookstore, can make or break the sale of a book arguably even more than its blurb.

I may not judge a book by its cover, but I often judge it on the first sentence.

NAMES ARE DANGEROUS THINGS

T. Powell Coltrin
http://journalingwoman.blogspot.com/2015/01/sticks-and-stones-but-names.html

wrote an interesting blog about authors choosing names.  Go visit.

She asked about how her writer friends chose names for their characters.

The Native American shamans will tell you that there is power in the use of names --

and death if you use the wrong ones.

Laughing Wolf, a cyber friend, once asked what Elu meant.

He told me that in Estonian it means life. I hadn't known that.

I did know that in several Native American languages it means "full of grace."

But Elu is only half-Apache {a name meaning 'enemy'}.

His mother is the Turquoise Woman, who was called Gaia by the ancient Greeks.

So I was very careful in selecting the name Elu, for there is more to him than even Samuel McCord knows.

Elu in ancient Chaldean encompasses in its Semitic essence, the concept of surpassing might, immense power, and unlimited strength.

There is more to Elu than what his surface would suggest.

As there is with Wolf Howl, but more of that later.

WHEN IS IT TIME TO SAY GOODBYE TO A DREAM?

"Keeping on despite being knocked on your butt produces character ... or makes you one."
             - Abby

We all face obstacles in pursuing our goals.  We all have our breaking points:

that moment when the potential rewards stop justifying the effort.

Usually, that’s the hump that separates the wanna-be's from the champions.

You may be facing that hump.

Wolf Howl
would have you ask yourself these questions:

1.) WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS GOAL IN THE FIRST PLACE & HAS ANYTHING CHANGED?

You had a good reason for committing to this plan.

You just have stopped believing you could have them because your attempts have yet to yield results.

Now you have to ask yourself:

If you were promised you would achieve your dream within the year, would you go on?

If so, then re-double your efforts and give yourself that year.

2.) HAVE YOU TRIED TO SWALLOW TOO BIG A BITE?

There is so much you want to do.  You cannot jump up to the second floor.

You must take small steps one at a time.

Sit back and think on what attainable steps you can take to get closer to your dream, and then take them.

3.) WHAT IS THE WORST THING THAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU KEEP GOING AND DO NOT REACH YOUR GOAL?

No one ever judges us like we judge ourselves.

Do not concern yourself with what others think of your efforts.

If you do not keep going, you will never know how far you could have gone,

and you will miss out on being the person you’d become through the effort itself.

4.)  ARE YOU REACTING OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND ANGER AT THE SLOW HARVEST OF YOUR DREAM?

Sit back from what you are feeling.  Let the fog of the feelings slip past you.

Reflect upon all that you have so far achieved.  Then, act from a calm center.  It will usually be to go on ahead.

5.) WOULD YOU ENJOY GIVING A LOVED ONE THE HONEST EXPLANATION OF WHY YOU GAVE UP?

I mean truly HONEST.

Would you enjoy telling your daughter,

"I gave up on quitting cigarettes because it was too hard, and my addiction is more important to me than spending additional years with you."

If you lay out it out like this,

odds are you’ll realize you had a really good reason for doing this difficult thing,

and no matter how challenging the process is, it’s worth plowing ahead.

6.) HOW MUCH HAVE YOU ALREADY PUT INTO YOUR DREAM?

 How invested are you?

How much money and time have you devoted?

How many sacrifices have you made?

Are you really willing to chalk it all up as a loss because you are not feeling confident in your abilities?

7.)  WHAT WOULD YOU TELL A FRIEND IN YOUR PLACE?

Would you let them throw in the towel because they are discouraged?

Or would you spell out the many facets of her/his potential?

You need to be your own friend at this time.

You, just as much as your other friends, deserve your belief and compassion.

AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER!

The 2012 Apocalypse happened … just not in the way anyone expected.  How have we not noticed?

Simple: civilized man has lost touch with himself.  How then can he expect to be in touch with the world he smothers in a crypt of concrete and steel?

Only Wolf Howl, a Native American whose spiritual center is still intact, notices the change.

But that same spirituality and the power derived from it has made the last Lakota shaman a hunted man.

Now, he finds himself teamed with the Turquoise Woman: the Spirit of the Earth,

A Mossad agent named Shadow,

A young killer: Abby,

And the amazingly still alive Nikola Tesla.

Together with the ancient star exile, Bast, they must find some way to stop a menace that cannot be stopped by any known physical force.

The answer lies in the strengths of the Lakota:
  • Transformation—how Wolf Howl learns to preserve what is fundamental even in the frigid void of Space.
  • Simplicity—the lesson taught by the Turquoise Woman that “the more you know, the less you need to carry.”
  • Strength and Resiliency—what the history and lore of the Lakota taught Wolf Howl about growing through adversity.
  • Purpose—how the world unveils our purpose to us if we but listen.  Sacrifice is a part of life. It is supposed to be. It is not something to regret. It is something to aspire to.
RETURN OF THE LAST SHAMAN … A Native American Fable for Our Age.
